Google Transit Mode Rolls Out With Real Time Commute Updates on Android


Google has started rolling out a new Transit Mode feature on Android that automatically adjusts phone settings while you are commuting. The feature was first announced earlier and is now becoming widely available on newer Android versions and Pixel devices.

Transit Mode is designed to make commuting easier by managing notifications, Bluetooth, and travel updates automatically while you are on the move.

What Transit Mode Does

Transit Mode works similarly to Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, and Driving Mode. When enabled, it can automatically adjust notification settings, sound settings, and Bluetooth connectivity while you are commuting.

For example, users can choose whether their phone stays on sound, vibrate, or silent during transit. The mode can also automatically turn on Bluetooth so headphones connect without manual setup.

This helps users avoid distractions while commuting and makes it easier to listen to music, podcasts, or calls while traveling.

Real Time Commute Updates in At a Glance

Another important feature included with Transit Mode is real time commute updates. These updates appear in the At a Glance widget on the lock screen and home screen.

The feature provides information about departure times, delays, and alternative routes so users can stay updated about their commute. To enable this feature, users need to set their home and work addresses in Google Maps and enable location history.

Google Maps then learns commuting patterns over time and starts showing commute updates automatically. Google says it may take a few weeks for the system to learn your travel routine and provide accurate commute information.

As smartphones become more integrated into daily routines like commuting, work, and travel, people store more photos, screenshots, and downloaded files on their devices. Over time, this can lead to duplicate photos and unnecessary files filling up storage.
