iOS 26.5 Beta 1 Released With Maps Updates and RCS Improvements


Apple has released iOS 26.5 beta 1 for developers, bringing several small but important changes across Apple services. While the update does not include the highly anticipated Siri upgrades yet, it introduces improvements in Apple Maps, messaging security, App Store subscriptions, and accessory support.

The update is currently available for developers, with a public beta expected soon. Apple also released updates for iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS alongside iOS 26.5.

New Suggested Places Feature in Apple Maps

One of the most noticeable changes in iOS 26.5 is the new Suggested Places feature in Apple Maps. This feature shows recommendations based on trending locations, recent searches, and nearby places.

Suggested Places will appear directly in the search area of Apple Maps, making it easier for users to discover restaurants, stores, and popular locations around them. Apple is also preparing to introduce ads in Apple Maps, and this feature appears to be part of that larger plan.

RCS End to End Encryption Improvements

Apple continues to work on improving messaging security. iOS 26.5 includes end to end encryption support for RCS messaging in beta again. Apple had previously tested this feature in earlier versions, but it was not released publicly at that time.

If this feature launches officially, it will improve security for messages sent between iPhone and Android devices using RCS messaging.

App Store Subscription Changes

Another change in iOS 26.5 involves App Store subscription options. Apple is testing new billing options that may allow monthly payments with a 12 month commitment. This could change how subscriptions work in many apps.

Developers will be able to configure subscription billing plans differently, which may provide more flexibility for both developers and users.

iOS 26.5 also includes new options when transferring data from iPhone to Android, especially for message attachments. Users can now choose whether to transfer attachments from the last 30 days, one year, or all attachments when moving messages.
