Samsung Messages Is Shutting Down as Samsung Switches to Google Messages

Samsung has officially announced that it will discontinue the Samsung Messages app later this year. The company has posted an End of Service announcement confirming that the messaging app will no longer be supported and users should switch to Google Messages instead.

This move does not come as a surprise, as Samsung has already been moving toward Google Messages on newer Galaxy devices over the past few years.

Why Samsung Is Ending Samsung Messages

Samsung has been gradually replacing its own messaging app with Google Messages on newer smartphones. Starting with newer Galaxy devices, Samsung began pre installing Google Messages as the default messaging app instead of Samsung Messages.

Now the company is fully transitioning away from its own messaging platform and encouraging users to switch to Google Messages before support officially ends.

This decision likely helps Samsung focus on fewer apps while relying on Google’s messaging platform, which already supports modern messaging features like RCS.

What Google Messages Offers

Google Messages includes RCS messaging, which allows users to send high quality images and videos, see typing indicators, create group chats, and send messages over WiFi or mobile data instead of traditional SMS.

Google Messages also includes AI features powered by Google’s Gemini, which can help with message suggestions and even edit or remix images shared in chats.

Another advantage is cross device messaging, which allows users to continue conversations on tablets, smartwatches, and other devices.

When switching messaging apps or moving to a new phone, many users end up with a lot of media files like images, videos, and attachments saved from chats. Over time, this can lead to storage issues, especially when there are duplicate photos saved from multiple chats or backups.

Many users look for tools that work as a photos remover to remove duplicates and clean unnecessary files from their phones to free up storage space.

In situations like this, tools like Smart Transfer are sometimes used when users move photos, videos, and files between devices or organize their storage while switching phones or messaging apps.

Cleaning duplicate photos and organizing storage helps free up space, improve phone performance, and make photo galleries easier to manage.

Samsung’s Messaging Future

Samsung moving fully to Google Messages shows how smartphone companies are increasingly relying on shared platforms instead of building their own apps for everything.

For users, this change will likely bring better messaging features, improved compatibility between Android devices, and more modern messaging features compared to traditional SMS.

If you are still using Samsung Messages, it would be a good idea to switch to Google Messages soon before the app is officially discontinued.
