iOS 27 Brings Big Upgrades to Apple Maps, Wallet, Find My, and More

Apple's WWDC 2026 keynote may have been dominated by Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, but those weren't the only announcements worth paying attention to.

Hidden behind the AI headlines are several upgrades to Apple's everyday apps and services that could have a bigger impact on how people use their iPhones every day. Whether it's finding new places to visit, splitting dinner bills with friends, or sharing photos with family, iOS 27 introduces practical features designed to make life easier.

Here's a closer look at the most useful additions coming to iPhone users this year.

Apple Maps Gets Smarter for Discovering New Places

Apple Maps continues its push to compete with Google Maps and social discovery platforms.

One of the biggest improvements is an updated version of Flyover, Apple's immersive 3D city experience. The feature now delivers more detailed visuals and smoother navigation, making it easier to explore cities and landmarks from above.

Apple is also introducing Local Lists, a new feature that allows users to discover trending restaurants, attractions, and local hotspots directly inside Maps. Instead of turning to social media platforms or third-party apps for recommendations, users can save and organize places they want to visit within Apple Maps itself.

The update transforms Maps from a navigation tool into a destination discovery platform.

Find My Introduces More Flexible Location Sharing

Sharing your location is about to become much more customizable.

With iOS 27, users can choose exactly how long they want to share their location. Instead of simply turning location sharing on or off, you'll be able to set a custom timeframe, whether that's a few hours, several days, or until a specific date.

Apple is also adding a feature that lets users temporarily pause location sharing with specific contacts until the end of the day.

These controls are especially useful for planning surprises, maintaining privacy, or sharing your location only when necessary.

Apple Wallet Gets Smarter With Bill Splitting

One of the standout additions in iOS 27 is coming to Apple Wallet.

The new feature uses Apple Intelligence to scan receipts and automatically split bills between friends. Simply scan a receipt using your iPhone camera, and Wallet can identify individual items, calculate taxes and tips, and send payment requests through Apple Cash.

Wallet is also becoming more useful for storing physical items. Users can now digitize loyalty cards and membership passes by scanning barcodes or importing digital cards directly into the app.

Moving to a New Phone? Don't Forget Your Important Data

Features like Wallet, Maps, and Find My store a lot of personal information, from saved locations to loyalty cards and contacts. When upgrading to a new device, making sure that information moves safely is just as important as transferring photos or messages.

This is especially useful for users going through a Tmobile data transfer or setting up a new device after switching carriers. Having your saved content, contacts, and important files ready on your new phone can make the transition much smoother.

Smart Transfer Makes Switching Devices Easier

If you're upgrading your phone alongside the release of iOS 27, Smart Transfer can help simplify the process.

The app allows users to move contacts, photos, videos, documents, and other important files between devices quickly and securely. Whether you're performing a Tmobile contact transfer or moving data between two smartphones, Smart Transfer helps keep your important content intact.

It also supports bookmarks easy import, making it simple to bring your saved websites and important links to your new device without starting from scratch.

Apple Pay Gets a More Helpful Checkout Experience

Apple Pay is also receiving an upgrade.

The redesigned checkout experience makes it easier to switch between payment methods while viewing useful information such as reward balances, debit card funds, and pay-later options.

Later this year, users will also be able to add money directly to eligible debit cards from within Wallet or during checkout.

Apple is also expanding Tap to Pay with a new feature called Tap to Share. This allows users to securely share information like loyalty accounts, contact details, and shipping information simply by tapping their devices together.

Apple Music Improves Lyrics and Audio Quality

Music fans are getting several welcome additions.

Lyrics Translation is expanding to support additional language pairings, making it easier to understand songs from around the world. Lyrics Pronunciation is also being upgraded, helping users sing along to songs in languages they may not speak.

Apple is also enhancing AutoMix, which creates smoother transitions between songs. The feature is expanding beyond iPhone to Apple TV and HomePod.

For audiophiles, Apple Music is adding Hi-Res Lossless Audio support on Apple TV 4K for compatible sound systems.

Podcasts Become Easier to Search

Apple Podcasts is becoming more useful for heavy listeners.

A new Search Within Show feature lets users search through episodes of a specific podcast instead of browsing manually.

Video podcasts are also arriving on Mac and Apple TV, reflecting the growing popularity of video-first content and giving creators more ways to reach their audiences.

Shared Albums Become More Collaborative

Apple is improving Shared Albums with several new features.

Users can now share photos in full resolution, react with emojis, and track activity within individual albums. Temporary albums are also being introduced, making it easier to collaborate on events or projects without permanently using iCloud storage.

Perhaps the biggest change is that people without Apple devices can now contribute photos through the web.

Fitness+ Adds More Wellness Features

Fitness+ is expanding its health offerings with a new program called Strong Through Menopause.

The three-week series includes Yoga and Strength workouts designed to support users experiencing perimenopause and menopause by improving mobility, strength, and stress management.

Apple is also adding a new Time to Walk episode featuring actor Busy Philipps, who shares her personal experiences and wellness journey.

iOS 27 Is About More Than Artificial Intelligence

Siri AI and Apple Intelligence may be grabbing headlines, but iOS 27's everyday improvements are just as important.

From smarter navigation and easier payments to more flexible location sharing and improved media experiences, these updates focus on making the iPhone more useful in everyday life.

Sometimes the best software features aren't the flashy ones. They're the small changes that save time, simplify tasks, and make your devices feel a little smarter every day.
