iOS 28 is expected to launch alongside Apple’s redesigned 20th-anniversary iPhone in 2027, which means the company is likely preparing something far more ambitious than a routine yearly software refresh.

Internally, Apple is reportedly using the codename “Bell” for iOS 28, while macOS 28 carries the codename “Poppy.”

Those names may not reveal much directly, but they do suggest Apple’s software teams are already deep into development work for the next generation of the iPhone experience.

According to Gurman, iOS 28 will be “far more significant” than iOS 27, although no specific features have been confirmed yet.

That statement alone is interesting because iOS 27 already sounds fairly ambitious.
