Google Confirms End of Life for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro


Google has officially confirmed that support for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is coming to an end. With the release of the Android 17 QPR2 Beta, the company announced that these devices will not participate in the next beta program because they will reach End of Life (EOL) before the update becomes available.

For Pixel 6 owners, this marks the final chapter for one of Google's most influential smartphone generations.

Pixel 6 Won't Receive Android 17 QPR2

The announcement came alongside the launch of the Android 17 QPR2 Beta.

Google confirmed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will not receive the over-the-air beta update because official software support ends before the stable QPR2 release, which is expected in December.

Instead, Android 17 QPR1 will serve as the final major beta release for both devices.

While this may disappoint long-time Pixel users, it follows Google's updated software roadmap for the Pixel 6 series.

Google Extended Support Beyond Its Original Promise

When the Pixel 6 lineup launched in October 2021, Google initially committed to:

  • Three years of Android version updates

  • Five years of security updates
