How to Customize Apple's Liquid Glass Interface for a Better iPhone Experience


Apple's latest software updates introduced a bold new design language called Liquid Glass, bringing translucent menus, floating interface elements, and glossy visual effects across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

While the refreshed look gives Apple's ecosystem a more modern appearance, not everyone is a fan. Some users love the sleek aesthetic, while others find the transparency distracting or less comfortable to use. Fortunately, Apple includes several ways to customize the interface so it better suits your preferences.

Here's how to adjust Liquid Glass and make your Apple devices easier to use.

Fine-Tune the Liquid Glass Appearance

If you're running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or the latest macOS beta, Apple now lets you control exactly how transparent the interface appears.

On an iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Appearance.

  3. Select Liquid Glass.

  4. Adjust the transparency slider.

Moving the slider toward the left creates a cleaner, more transparent appearance, while moving it toward the right adds a stronger tinted effect that improves contrast.

Mac users can find a similar setting by opening System Settings > Appearance, where the same slider allows them to customize the visual intensity of Liquid Glass.

If you're using iOS 26.1 or macOS 26.1, you'll still have two preset options:

  • Clear for a more transparent look.

  • Tinted for improved visibility and stronger contrast.

Many people customize their iPhone right after upgrading to a new device. Before adjusting wallpapers, icons, or display settings, it's a good idea to make sure your important files have been safely moved.

Apple Watch users can activate it through either the Watch app on iPhone or directly on the watch under Accessibility settings.

Dark Mode Can Improve the Overall Look

Many users find that Liquid Glass appears less distracting when Dark Mode is enabled.

To activate it on iPhone or iPad:

  • Open Settings > Display & Brightness.

  • Select Dark.

Mac users can enable Dark Mode through System Settings > Appearance.

Besides changing the overall appearance, Dark Mode often improves contrast and reduces the visibility of transparent interface elements.

Reduce Bright Visual Effects

Apple has also introduced additional accessibility options that tone down some of the lighting effects used throughout the interface.

To enable them:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Go to Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

  3. Turn on Reduce Bright Effects.

You can also visit:

Settings > Accessibility > Motion

and enable Reduce Motion, which minimizes certain animations associated with the Liquid Glass interface.

These settings won't dramatically change the design, but they can create a calmer and more comfortable viewing experience.

Customize Your Home Screen

The Home Screen offers even more opportunities to personalize the new interface.

Touch and hold any empty space on the Home Screen, then tap Edit followed by Customize.

From here, you can:

  • Switch between Light and Dark icon styles.

  • Increase icon size for easier visibility.

  • Apply Clear or Tinted icon themes.

  • Adjust color tint intensity.

  • Match icon colors with your wallpaper.

These customization tools work independently of the Liquid Glass settings, allowing you to create a look that feels both attractive and practical.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

Liquid Glass represents one of Apple's biggest visual redesigns in years, but its default appearance won't appeal to everyone. The good news is that Apple offers enough customization options to tailor the experience to your preferences.
