iPhone Ultra Supply Could Be Extremely Limited at Launch, New Report Claims


Apple's first foldable iPhone is shaping up to be one of the company's most anticipated products in years. However, getting your hands on one could prove more difficult than expected.

A new report from respected supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests Apple will have very limited inventory when the rumored iPhone Ultra is announced later this year. While the device is still expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 lineup, actual availability may lag well behind the launch event.

If these predictions are accurate, Apple could face a situation similar to the iPhone X rollout, where demand far exceeded initial supply.

Apple May Build Fewer Foldable iPhones Than Expected

According to Kuo's latest industry analysis, Apple is expected to manufacture roughly 7 to 8 million foldable iPhones during the second half of 2026.

Even more notable is the production timeline. Only around 500,000 to 1 million units are expected to be ready during the third quarter, when Apple traditionally introduces new iPhones.

For comparison, Apple is reportedly preparing around 20 to 22 million units of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max during the same period. That massive gap suggests the foldable model will be significantly harder to purchase.

September Announcement Doesn't Guarantee Immediate Availability

Apple is still widely expected to unveil the foldable iPhone during its September keynote, but that doesn't necessarily mean customers will receive it immediately.

Limited production could force Apple to stagger shipments over several weeks or even months. Buyers who don't secure an early preorder might find themselves waiting until late autumn or even the holiday season before their device arrives.

Some analysts believe delivery estimates could stretch beyond four weeks shortly after pre-orders open.

Premium Design Comes With a Premium Price

Rumors suggest Apple's first foldable phone will feature:

  • A 5.5-inch external display

  • A 7.8-inch foldable internal display

  • A thickness of under 5mm when unfolded

  • Premium titanium construction

  • A price between $2,300 and $2,500

If those estimates hold true, the iPhone Ultra would become Apple's most expensive smartphone to date.
