iOS 27 Reminders: Three New Features That Make the App Smarter


Apple is giving Reminders some useful attention in iOS 27. While the app is not getting the biggest redesign in Apple's latest software update, several changes could make creating and managing tasks considerably easier.

The biggest addition uses Apple Intelligence to turn a simple description into a more complete reminder. Apple is also changing how reminder details are edited and improving the grocery list experience.

1. Describe a reminder in your own words

Creating a reminder in iOS 27 can be more natural than before.

Reminders has supported basic natural language input for some time, such as recognizing a date entered alongside a task. With iOS 27, Apple Intelligence takes that idea further by interpreting the details in a complete description.

Instead of manually adding each piece of information, you can describe what you need to remember and let Apple Intelligence identify the relevant details. A task could include information such as a date, time, or other metadata without requiring you to enter each field separately.

Apple describes the feature as a way to use your own words to create a reminder with help from Apple Intelligence. The exact relationship between this new option and the existing natural language system could still change during the beta period.

For now, though, the goal is clear: creating reminders should take fewer steps.

2. Reminders gets a better metadata editor

iOS 27 also changes the way you add and edit details within a reminder.

Previously, several quick controls appeared above the keyboard when creating or editing a task. iOS 27 moves those controls into a dedicated interface surrounding the active reminder, making more options available without requiring another trip into the full information screen.

The updated editor provides access to date, time, urgency, repeat settings, location, tags, flags, and camera options. You can still open the complete information panel when needed, but the most common controls should be easier to reach.

That matters when you are building a reminder quickly. Instead of creating the task first and then opening several menus to finish it, more of the setup can happen from the same place.

3. Grocery lists get smarter

Apple is also improving the grocery list feature in Reminders.

According to Apple, grocery items should now be sorted more accurately, while automatic categorization is also expanding to support multiple languages.

The improvement is connected to the more capable Foundation Models used in iOS 27. The underlying feature is not new, but Apple is giving it better language understanding so it can organize grocery items more effectively.
