Apple has typically held its major iPhone event during the second week of September, usually on a Tuesday. This year's calendar is different because Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7, making Tuesday, September 8 less convenient for the event.

That is why several observers now expect Apple to move the keynote to Wednesday, September 9. The date has also gained support from analysts who previously expected the event to happen a day earlier.

Why September 9 makes sense

The shift from Tuesday to Wednesday is largely a calendar issue rather than a change in Apple's usual launch pattern.

Tom's Guide has also pointed to September 9, noting that Apple's traditional second-week-of-September schedule would normally place the event on Tuesday. With Labor Day immediately before it, Wednesday becomes the more practical choice.

That would give Apple a familiar September launch window while avoiding a major US holiday at the start of the week.

When will Apple announce the event?

The bigger question now is when Apple will officially reveal the keynote date.

Apple generally sends invitations to the press and other guests shortly before its major events. In previous years, the company has moved toward sending those invitations roughly two weeks before the keynote.

If the September 9 date is correct, that would point to August 26 as the most likely announcement day.

However, there is another possibility.

Could Apple send invitations on August 25?

If Apple follows its usual Tuesday event pattern, the invitation would have been expected on Tuesday, August 25, exactly two weeks before a September 8 keynote.

Since the event may instead move to Wednesday because of Labor Day, Apple could still choose to send the invitations on Tuesday, August 25.

That would technically make the announcement 15 days before the event rather than 14, but it would preserve Apple's preferred Tuesday rhythm for revealing major announcements.

So, at this point, August 25 or August 26 are the two dates to watch.

What will Apple unveil?

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to headline the event, but they may not be the only major products announced.
