Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Bring Back a Long-Lost Camera Design

Samsung may be preparing to bring back a camera design that never made it to the Galaxy S26 series.

Multiple leakers now claim that the Galaxy S27 series, or at least the Galaxy S27 Ultra, could adopt a new camera bar design previously linked to the canceled Galaxy S26 Edge. The change would give Samsung's next flagship a noticeably different rear panel.

The details are still limited, but the leaked images suggest the redesign could be one of the more visible changes Samsung makes to the Galaxy lineup next year.

Galaxy S27 Ultra could get a new camera bar

Ice Universe, Sonny Dickson, and Max Jambor have all reportedly pointed toward the same general design direction.

The leaked concept features a wide camera bar across the rear of the phone rather than the more separated camera lenses used on current Galaxy models. The approach was previously rumored for the Galaxy S26 Edge before that device was reportedly canceled.

There is still some uncertainty over how widely Samsung will use the design. Ice Universe has shown images suggesting that at least one Galaxy S27 model could retain a design closer to the Galaxy S26 series, while the redesigned camera bar may be reserved for the Ultra.

What does the new camera layout look like?

The reported design places two camera lenses toward the left side of the rear panel, alongside a pill-shaped section that could house another camera.

The arrangement is expected to include the flash as part of the broader camera module, creating a single visual unit rather than several separate camera rings.

The entire camera plateau reportedly stretches across the rear, giving it a look that is somewhat closer to Apple's recent approach. That would represent a clear departure from Samsung's current Galaxy design language.

Samsung may drop one telephoto camera

The camera redesign could also be linked to an important hardware change.

Rumors suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra may lose its secondary telephoto camera, leaving the phone with a different arrangement from previous Ultra models.

If accurate, the larger camera bar may be partly intended to accommodate a revised system rather than simply serving as a cosmetic update. It would also make the new design easier to distinguish from Samsung's existing flagship cameras.
