Galaxy Z Fold 8 Sales Reportedly Rise After iPhone Duo Announcement
Apple's first foldable iPhone has finally entered the conversation, but its arrival may be giving Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 an unexpected boost.
Just over a week after Apple introduced the iPhone Duo, a report from South Korea claims Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales increased as consumers compared the two foldable phones.
According to The Chosun, cited by GSMArena, Samsung saw a 10% increase in Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales following Apple's iPhone Duo announcement. The report suggests that some customers were taking a wait-and-see approach before deciding which foldable to buy.
Price and Availability Could Be Driving Interest
The price difference appears to be particularly significant in South Korea.
While the iPhone Duo is only $100 more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in the U.S., the difference is reportedly around 1 million won in South Korea. Storage options also separate the two devices.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 does not offer a 1TB configuration, while Apple's iPhone Duo can be configured with up to 2TB. However, that higher-capacity iPhone comes at a substantial premium.
Availability may also be influencing purchasing decisions. Samsung's Fold 8 is already available, while Apple is scheduled to bring the iPhone Duo to market later.
In the U.S., Apple says iPhone Duo preorders begin October 16, with retail availability starting October 23.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Was Already Seeing Strong Demand
The reported increase comes after an already strong start for Samsung's latest foldable.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 preorders reportedly performed strongly, with online inventory selling out and the standard Fold 8 attracting more demand than the Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8.
The phone also has a practical advantage for people who are already part of Samsung's ecosystem. Moving to a new foldable often means bringing years of photos, messages, contacts, and app data along with it.
For anyone switching devices, tools such as Smart Transfer can make that transition simpler. A WhatsApp transfer can help users preserve important conversations, while clone phone files can be useful when moving selected content between phones. For large photo libraries, a dedicated photo transfer process can also make it easier to move only the media you actually want on the new device.
How the iPhone Duo Compares
Apple's first foldable brings a different approach to the category, but the hardware differences are already noticeable.
Weight is one example. The iPhone Duo is reportedly heavier than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, while Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold is also lighter.
Samsung has spent years refining its foldable lineup, giving the company an established product in a category Apple is entering for the first time.
That does not automatically determine which device consumers will choose. Pricing, software, camera performance, durability, ecosystem preferences, and availability can all influence the decision.
Samsung's Foldable Lead Faces a New Challenger
The iPhone Duo gives Apple a new presence in a market where Samsung has been one of the most established names.
For now, the reported increase in Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales shows that Apple's entry has not simply redirected attention toward the iPhone. In at least one market, the announcement appears to have encouraged consumers to look more closely at Samsung's existing foldable.
With the iPhone Duo still weeks away from reaching stores, the competitive picture may become clearer once customers can actually compare both phones side by side.
