Google Gemini Can Now Handle Routine Calls for You on Pixel Phones

Google has spent much of the year pushing Android toward a more intelligent, assistant-driven experience, and its latest Phone app feature might be one of the most practical examples yet.

The company is bringing Gemini deeper into the calling experience with a feature called Call for Me. Instead of making you sit through a phone menu, wait on hold, and explain a simple request to a business yourself, Gemini can make the call and handle the routine conversation on your behalf.

For anyone who has ever spent 20 minutes listening to hold music just to ask whether something is in stock, the appeal is obvious.

What Is Google's Call for Me Feature?

Call for Me is designed to handle straightforward calls to businesses.

You give Gemini an instruction, and the AI places the call for you. It can work through automated menus, wait while the business representative becomes available, explain why it is calling, and continue the conversation based on your request.

Google says potential uses include checking whether a hardware store has a particular item in stock, booking patio seating at a restaurant, changing a haircut appointment, or adding another item to an existing food order.

The feature is not designed to replace every phone conversation. Instead, it targets the repetitive calls that are necessary but rarely worth your time.

Gemini Can Handle the Call While You Watch

One of the more interesting aspects of Call for Me is that Gemini does not simply disappear into the background.

You can follow the conversation as it happens through a live transcript. If the conversation reaches a point where human input is needed, you can step in and take over.

That gives the feature a useful middle ground between full automation and doing everything yourself.

You might tell Gemini, for example, that you need to find out whether a particular product is available. Call for Me Is Currently Limited to Pixel 11

There is an important limitation, though.

For now, Call for Me is available only on the Pixel 11 series. It is being introduced as an early preview through the Phone by Google public beta.

Access also requires a paid Gemini subscription, so this is not currently a feature that every Pixel owner can simply turn on.

That could change in the future. Google has been gradually expanding Gemini's role across Android, and features that begin on newer Pixel hardware can eventually become more widely available.

Whether Call for Me follows that path remains to be seen.
