iOS 27 Beta 8: What’s New in Apple’s Latest Developer Update?


Apple has released the eighth developer beta of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, arriving just one week after the previous beta. The latest builds continue the final testing phase ahead of Apple's expected public release, with the focus increasingly shifting from introducing major features to improving performance, stability and the overall user experience.

Developers with compatible devices can install the beta through Settings > General > Software Update. As always with pre-release software, the developer beta is intended primarily for testing rather than everyday use.

iOS 27 brings a smarter Siri

One of the biggest changes arriving with iOS 27 is Siri AI, Apple's more capable take on its voice assistant. Rather than simply responding to individual commands, the new system is designed to understand more context and provide more conversational answers.

Siri AI can draw on general knowledge as well as information from apps such as Messages and Mail. It also gains onscreen awareness, allowing it to understand what you are looking at and use that context when responding. Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app where users can manage their conversations with the assistant.

More Apple Intelligence features are coming

Apple is expanding Apple Intelligence across more parts of iOS 27. New capabilities are being added to apps including Photos, Safari, Shortcuts, Wallet and Passwords, giving Apple's AI features a larger role in everyday tasks.

Write with Siri is also available across the system, helping users generate or refine text. Meanwhile, Visual Intelligence has moved into the Camera app and gains a new Siri mode, giving users another way to interact with information they see through their iPhone's camera.

For users who already rely on AI tools throughout the day, these additions could make Apple's intelligence features feel less like individual tools and more like a layer built into the operating system.

Liquid Glass gets more control

Apple is also continuing to refine the Liquid Glass interface introduced with the new generation of iOS design.

One notable addition is a transparency slider, giving users greater control over how pronounced the Liquid Glass effect appears. This is a relatively small change, but it addresses one of the most practical parts of a major interface redesign: allowing people to make the visual experience feel more comfortable for their own preferences.

iOS 27 is getting faster

Performance is another major focus of the latest iOS 27 testing cycle. Apple has made a range of optimizations designed to make the operating system feel more responsive, including on older compatible iPhones.

Apps should open more quickly, the keyboard is designed to appear faster and AirDrop transfers are getting performance improvements. Apple is also improving how iPhones move between Wi-Fi and cellular connections, helping devices maintain connectivity more smoothly when network conditions change.
