iOS 27 Call Context: Apple's Phone App Gets a Smarter Upgrade


Apple is adding several useful features across iOS 27, including updates to Notes, Wallet, Maps, and Messages. But one of the more practical additions is coming to the Phone app.

Called Call Context, the new Apple Intelligence feature can automatically surface relevant information on the screen when someone calls a business. Instead of switching between apps to find a reservation, confirmation number, or other detail, the information can appear while the call is happening.

What Is Call Context in iOS 27?

Call Context is designed to make business calls easier by bringing relevant information from other apps into the Phone app.

Apple explains that the feature can proactively surface information from across a user's apps. For example, when calling an airline, the iPhone could display a confirmation code stored in Mail.

The idea is simple: the information needed for a call should be available when the call needs it.

How Call Context Works

Once a supported business call begins, iOS 27 can identify information that may be relevant to the conversation and display it on the call screen.

For example, someone calling an airline about an upcoming flight could see their booking information without manually opening another app. In some situations, the iPhone can even offer to read a confirmation number aloud during the call.

If multiple relevant bookings or pieces of information are available, additional details can appear underneath the primary result, allowing users to quickly access the information they need.

A Useful Addition for Everyday Calls

Call Context builds on Apple's recent efforts to make the Phone app more useful. iOS 26 introduced features such as Call Screening and Hold Assist, while iOS 27 adds another layer of assistance directly to the call experience.

The benefit is especially noticeable during calls that require information stored elsewhere. Searching through emails or messages while trying to speak with a business can be inconvenient, particularly when the information is a long confirmation number or reservation detail.
