iOS 27 Camera App: 3 New Features You Should Know About


Apple is giving the iPhone Camera app a significant upgrade with iOS 27. The changes go beyond taking better photos, adding new ways to interact with whatever your camera sees.

Some features are available on AI-compatible iPhones, while others are exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Here are the three biggest Camera updates to know about.

1. Siri Mode Brings AI Into the Camera

iOS 27 introduces a new Siri mode in the Camera app for AI-compatible iPhones. You first need to enable Siri AI before using it.

The feature expands the visual intelligence tools previously associated with Camera Control and brings them directly into the Camera app. You can point your iPhone at something, capture it, and then ask Siri to help you act on what is visible.

For example, you could photograph text in another language and translate it, capture an event poster and add its information to your calendar, or point the camera at a plant to get care instructions. Food can also be analyzed for nutritional information.

The idea is simple: your camera becomes a way to interact with the world around you, rather than just a tool for taking pictures.

2. Camera Controls Are Now Customizable

Apple is also giving users more control over the Camera interface.

In iOS 27, controls within modes such as Photo, Video, and Portrait can be customized. Tap the six-dot icon in the bottom-right corner to open the controls panel, then select Edit.

From there, you can add additional controls to the main panel and arrange the options you use most often. If there are controls you rarely touch, you can leave them out of your primary view.

It is a small change, but one that should make the Camera app feel more personal and less cluttered.

3. iPhone 18 Pro Gets Exclusive Camera Tools

Owners of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max get several additional photography features.

The new Pro controls provide manual options for adjusting settings such as lens aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and histogram viewing. That gives photographers considerably more control over how an image is captured.

Apple is also introducing Photographic Styles 3, which adds more texture and grain controls for users who want to fine-tune the look of their photos.

Another notable addition is Apple Reference Image. The feature creates a digital-negative-style reference that can be used to verify what the iPhone camera originally captured.

Moving Photos Between Devices

As cameras become more capable, photo libraries are getting bigger too. That makes moving images between devices an increasingly important part of upgrading or managing your phone.

A transfer app such as Smart Transfer can help when you need to move photos and other files between compatible devices. Its fast share capabilities are designed to make sending content simpler, while providing a practical option for easy file sharing when you are moving photos to another device.
