iPhone Duo Could Give Apple’s iPhone Sales a Major Boost
Apple’s launch of the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, could give the company a new way to attract customers who have been waiting for something genuinely different. The $1,999 starting price makes it a premium device, but analysts believe its novelty could encourage existing iPhone users to upgrade sooner.
According to The Information, IDC expects Apple to sell around 10 million iPhone Duo units during its first 12 months. Francisco Jeronimo, IDC’s vice president for data and analytics, believes the device could appeal particularly to customers willing to pay more for new technology.
The iPhone Duo could boost iPhone revenue
iPhone revenue has remained relatively steady in recent years, with only modest growth through fiscal 2025. The iPhone Duo gives Apple another opportunity to create excitement in its premium lineup and potentially encourage more frequent upgrades.
Based on IDC’s projection, 10 million units could generate approximately $27 billion in revenue during Apple’s fiscal 2026 year. That would represent around 6% of the company’s expected revenue for the year.
Higher-capacity models could contribute significantly to that figure. Apple could also benefit from trade-in programs and installment plans, which can make an expensive foldable easier for existing customers to purchase.
Moving data to a foldable iPhone
A new form factor can also mean a new setup process. Customers upgrading from another iPhone or switching from Android may need to move photos, contacts, messages, apps, and other personal content to their new device.
This is where smart file sharing and phone migration tools can make the transition more manageable. Smart Transfer is designed to help users move content between supported devices, giving people a practical way to organize their digital information when upgrading to a new phone. For someone moving years of personal content to a new foldable, having transfer and file sharing tools available can reduce some of the manual work involved in starting over.
Apple enters a growing foldable market
The timing could also work in Apple’s favor. IDC reported that global revenue from foldable smartphones grew 16% year over year in 2025, compared with 7% growth for non-foldable smartphones.
Apple is entering a market that has already been developed by Android manufacturers, but the iPhone Duo could quickly change the competitive landscape.
IDC estimated that Android foldables represented close to 90% of the category in 2025. Its forecasts suggest Apple could capture around 30% of the foldable market in 2026, with iOS potentially reaching 40% in 2027.
What the iPhone Duo means for Apple
The iPhone Duo gives Apple more than another iPhone model. It introduces a completely different form factor to the company's lineup while targeting customers who are willing to spend significantly more on new technology.
Whether the projected sales materialize will depend on pricing, availability, consumer demand, and how well the device performs in everyday use. But its arrival marks an important shift for Apple's smartphone strategy and could make foldable phones a much larger part of the iPhone business.
