iPhone Duo StandBy Mode Gets More Customization Options in iOS 27

Apple appears to be giving StandBy mode a more flexible and personalized experience with iOS 27 on the upcoming iPhone Duo. While Apple has already shown glimpses of the new StandBy interface, newly leaked details provide a closer look at several clock faces, widget layouts, customization options, and smart home features that could be available at launch.

StandBy has gradually turned the iPhone into something more useful when it is sitting idle, displaying information at a glance instead of leaving the screen unused. With the iPhone Duo, Apple seems ready to expand that idea even further.

New StandBy Faces Coming to iPhone Duo

Apple has already shown some of the redesigned StandBy experience in its promotional material, but a recent leak has revealed several additional options that had not previously been seen.

According to images shared by leaker pdfu, the iPhone Duo could offer a wider selection of StandBy faces than Apple has publicly demonstrated so far. Five previously unseen designs are among the options shown in the leak.

One of the more interesting additions is Home Camera, which can display a single camera feed or arrange as many as nine feeds in a grid. This could make the iPhone Duo useful as a quick home monitoring display when the device is sitting on a desk, nightstand, or other convenient surface.

Another option appears to be Home Modular, which is expected to focus on smart home controls. Rather than simply displaying the time, this type of StandBy interface could give users quick access to connected devices around the home.

Apple also appears to be adding a playful Snoopy-themed StandBy face, continuing the company's use of the character across its software and devices.

Flow and Fade Could Add More Visual Variety

The leaked StandBy options go beyond traditional clock designs.

Apple appears to be working on a face called Flow, which may feature animated elements. There is also another option called Fade, although details about how this particular face will look or behave remain unclear.

These additions would give users more ways to make StandBy match the mood or setting of their device. Someone might prefer a simple clock during the night, while another user could choose an animated design or a more information-rich layout during the day.

The StandBy faces already shown by Apple include options such as Analog, Digital, Classic Calendar, Weather, Photos, Memories, Shared Albums, and Modular.

StandBy Will Offer More Personalization

The iPhone Duo's StandBy experience is also expected to include a dedicated face editor.

Users will reportedly be able to adjust the appearance of compatible StandBy faces by choosing different styles and colors. The customization experience appears to build on the controls already familiar from the current iPhone StandBy interface.

Swipe gestures could make these adjustments faster, allowing users to move through visual variations without having to navigate through multiple settings menus.

This is a small change, but it could make StandBy feel less like a static display and more like a customizable part of the iPhone experience.

Five Widget Layouts Could Make StandBy More Useful

Clock faces that support widgets are expected to offer five different widget arrangements.

The reported layouts include:

  • StandBy

  • Stacked

  • Top

  • Middle

  • Bottom

The idea is simple: instead of forcing every user into the same information arrangement, iOS 27 could let them decide where supporting information appears around the clock.

For example, one layout might put useful information above the clock, while another could emphasize widgets below it. This could make it easier to create a StandBy screen that prioritizes the information a user actually checks throughout the day.

What About Moving Data to the iPhone Duo?

A new iPhone often means more than simply turning on a new device. There is usually a second task waiting behind the setup screen: moving contacts, photos, videos, documents, and other important information from the old phone.

This is particularly relevant for people switching between different platforms. Moving data from Android to an iPhone can involve several types of content and different transfer methods, so having the right tools can make the transition much less tedious.

For users managing data across multiple devices, Smart Transfer can also be useful as part of the broader phone-switching process. The app supports mobile transfer for moving important data between devices, while users looking specifically at Android devices can use it for android file transfering without turning the migration into a complicated manual process. Contacts can also be handled through contact transfer, which is especially useful when setting up a new phone and making sure essential information comes with you.

The bigger benefit is convenience. Instead of treating a phone upgrade as a completely fresh start, a transfer tool can help bring the information you already rely on into your new device, leaving you more time to explore features such as the redesigned StandBy experience.

iPhone Duo Release Date

The iPhone Duo is reportedly scheduled to become available for pre-order on October 16, followed by a launch on October 23.

As the release approaches, Apple could reveal more information about StandBy, including additional faces, widgets, customization features, and other software capabilities that have not yet been detailed publicly.

For now, the leaked StandBy options suggest that Apple is expanding the feature beyond a simple always-on clock. With more faces, home controls, camera views, widgets, colors, and layouts, StandBy could become a much more customizable part of the iPhone Duo experience.

For anyone planning to upgrade, the hardware itself may be only part of the story. The way iOS 27 uses the new device when it is sitting on a desk or nightstand could become one of the more noticeable everyday changes.
