iPhone Ultra Could Cost Over $2,000, New Report Reveals


Apple’s first foldable iPhone is almost here, and a new report has offered a closer look at what could be the company’s most expensive smartphone yet. Ahead of Apple’s September 9 event, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce has shared estimated pricing and specifications for the rumored device, which is expected to launch as the iPhone Ultra.

iPhone Ultra could start above $2,000

According to TrendForce, the foldable iPhone could start between $2,099 and $2,299 in the US, while the most expensive configurations may cross the $3,000 mark. That would put it well above the current iPhone 17 Pro Max and make the foldable model the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever released.

The premium price is not particularly surprising given the rumored hardware. Apple is expected to combine a large foldable display with high-end components, substantial storage options, and its latest Pro-series processor. For buyers upgrading from an older iPhone, moving years of photos, contacts, messages, and other content to such a device could also become part of the transition.

Expected iPhone Ultra specifications

TrendForce expects the foldable iPhone to feature a 5.5-inch OLED display on the outside and a much larger 7.8-inch OLED panel inside. The inner screen is reportedly expected to support ProMotion with refresh rates of up to 120Hz.

Other rumored specifications include:

  • 7.8-inch inner OLED display with up to 120Hz ProMotion

  • Touch ID

  • A20 Pro chip built using TSMC’s 2nm process

  • 12GB RAM

  • 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage options

The return of Touch ID would be another notable change. Earlier reports have suggested that Apple may use a side-mounted fingerprint sensor because the extremely thin design could make it difficult to accommodate the Face ID hardware found on current iPhones.

A foldable iPhone could mean a different upgrade experience

The larger inner display is likely to be one of the biggest reasons buyers consider the iPhone Ultra. Apple is also expected to optimize iOS for the foldable form factor, potentially giving users more room for multitasking and apps.

That makes the transition from an older iPhone particularly important.
