Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Camera Rumors Point to a Familiar Telephoto Setup


Samsung may not be making the major telephoto change previously rumored for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

An earlier report suggested that Samsung could replace the current 5x telephoto camera with a new 4x optical zoom system using a larger 1/1.9-inch sensor. Another source later disputed that claim, saying the upcoming flagship would retain the 5x camera found on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Now, another reliable source has weighed in, and the latest information points toward the existing setup staying in place.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Keep a 50MP 5x Telephoto Camera

According to Roland Quandt, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a Sony sensor.

That would effectively rule out the previously rumored 4x optical zoom upgrade and suggests Samsung could once again use a camera configuration similar to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The ultrawide camera is also expected to remain at 50MP, matching the current-generation Ultra model.

There is one notable change on the front, however. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is rumored to move to a 16MP selfie camera with autofocus, replacing the 12MP selfie camera used on the S26 Ultra.

Other Galaxy S27 Ultra Hardware Rumors

The camera system is not the only area generating speculation around Samsung's next Ultra flagship.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to use Samsung's newer M16 OLED panel, which could bring improvements to the display compared with the current generation.

Processing power is also expected to receive an upgrade. In some markets, Samsung may use the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. There have also been reports that an Exynos 2700 version could be offered in certain regions.

For users upgrading to a new Galaxy phone, the hardware is only part of the transition. Moving years of photos, videos, contacts, and other files can be just as important.
